Ban Chiang: A World Heritage in Thailand — Vintage Fine Arts Department / UNESCO Archaeology Book

Scarce illustrated Thai publication devoted to Ban Chiang, the celebrated prehistoric archaeological site in northeastern Thailand.

Published in association with Thailand’s Fine Arts Department and displaying the UNESCO World Heritage emblem, the book documents the archaeology and material culture of Ban Chiang through extensive photographs and Thai-language text.

Illustrations include archaeological excavations, burials and human remains in situ, prehistoric painted pottery, cord-marked ceramics, bronze artifacts and discussions of ancient metallurgy, together with museum displays and other archaeological material.

Ban Chiang is one of the most important archaeological sites in Southeast Asia and became particularly famous for discoveries concerning prehistoric ceramic and bronze-working traditions. Excavations beginning in the 1960s helped transform scholarly understanding of Southeast Asian prehistory.

Interesting original travel ephemera included: found inside the book are a Napalai Hotel, Udon Thani envelope and color hotel postcard. Udon Thani is the northeastern Thai province in which Ban Chiang is located, making these attractive period-associated pieces to retain with the book.

Softcover, profusely illustrated, including numerous full-page color photographs.

Condition: Good used/vintage condition. Cover shows light rubbing, scratches and handling wear with minor edge/corner wear. Interior appears clean and bright overall. Original hotel envelope and postcard included. Please see photographs for condition and contents.
