Upholstery sample of textured fabric dated 1950 and with pattern name “Shanghai La.” Measures 45” wide x 54” long (1-1/2 yards).
The cut ends are finished with serge stitch, as typical of upholstery samples. The ground color is a light chartreuse, green, appearing yellow, and some light conditions. The print features chrysanthemums and exotic birds in a stylized Asian theme.
The fiber content is not known, but it appears to be a cotton – rayon blend with a slubby texture, probably meant to look like a raw silk fabric.
Suitable as upholstery fabric, drapery, or craft projects.
There are no spots, holes, or other issues. It has a storage odor. I have not laundered this piece.
