This highly collectible set of six vintage mid-century charger plates was handcrafted in Taxco, Mexico, by the world-renowned silversmith workshop Los Castillos. Each stunning plate features a wide, decorative rim meticulously inlaid with iridescent mosaic segments of natural abalone shell and mother of pearl, showcasing a vibrant array of swirling green, pink, purple, and blue hues. The central wells are crafted from bright, polished silver-plated metal, creating a luxurious contrast with the organic shell borders. The undersides bear the authentic stamped hallmarks from the workshop, including the circular "Los Castillos Taxco" maker's mark, "Mexico," the design number "306". The mark on most of the plates is hard to read. These timeless Mexican modernist pieces are in very good vintage condition, retaining their structural integrity and beautiful shell inlay with no missing pieces. The silver-plated surfaces exhibit surface scratches, scuffs, and small spots of localized tarnishing or plating wear on the undersides, which is entirely consistent with their age and careful handling over the decades. Each plate measures 11" wide, and altogether they weight over 9 pounds.
