Custom Modular Aluminium Studio Workstation Hand-built, fully modular, fully disassemblable aluminium studio system consisting of three independent sections: a left-side synthesizer workstation, a central mixing/drum-machine section, and a right-side sampler/desktop unit.
Overview: This is a purpose-designed TIG-welded aluminium studio workstation that I designed and built myself. It is extremely lightweight, rigid, and can be completely broken down into flat sections for easy transport or storage. Every part is engineered for real studio use, ergonomic placement, and secure cable management.
Sections:
Left Synthesizer Section: • Designed for multiple synthesizers, control surfaces, and modules. • Sliding angled frame for ideal playing ergonomics; 16U total rack space (4×4). • Sliding lower shelf. • The synth frame and upper shelf sit on a sliding bracket, allowing them to be pushed back to access the 10U rack space underneath. • Multiple cable-routing attachment points. • Slides and hinges allow panels to move toward you while keeping cables secure.
Central Mixing + Drum Machine Section: • Large sliding top rack space, ideal for a mixing controller or analogue mixer. (If interested, I can also sell the Allen & Heath MixWizard WZ14:4:2 I used there.) • The top rack panel uses ratchet stays and can tilt up to 45°. • Two large sliding shelves for drum machines, grooveboxes, or controllers (Launchpad, Kaoss Pad, etc.), built from strong aluminium diamond plate. • Shelf angles adjustable in 15° increments via ratchet stays. • The entire mixer/shelf assembly slides forward and back for easy access to the lower patching/rack section at any time. • Integrated central rack space (I used it for a patchbay and outboard). • Cable-management system keeps cables secure even when sections move. • Additional right-side utility shelf, ideal for a Mac Mini or small computer. • 2×12U rack space underneath. • Adjustable monitor-speaker mounting points.
Right-Side Sampler + Desktop Section: • Multi-shelf modular frame suited for samplers, small mixers, tape decks, desktop units, and utility gear. • Same lightweight, rigid TIG-welded aluminium construction. • Top sliding shelf with ratchet stay (up to +45° tilt) plus a small 2×3U rack space. • Secondary sliding shelf with ratchet stay capable of –45° tilt. • Additional 2×3U rack space. • Third sliding shelf below. • The top two shelves sit on a sliding bracket that can be pushed back for lower-section access. • Bottom level includes 2×5U rack spaces.
Build Quality and Materials: • Constructed with precision and significant build time — this is a structural aluminium workstation, not MDF. • Used reliably in a working studio for three years.
Features: • Fully disassemblable; packs flat for transport or compact storage. • Adjustable angles, sliding mechanisms, and multiple shelves across all three units. • Large central 19" rack areas plus additional rack rails throughout. • Integrated lighting for the main rack area. • Secure cable-management system with numerous attachment points positioned so cables move safely with the sliding assemblies. • Designed to keep you in the ideal listening position while bringing equipment toward you. • Very lightweight yet extremely sturdy due to aluminium construction. • Modular: use all three sections together or separately.
Condition: Excellent structural condition. Fully working. Only minor cosmetic marks from studio use.
Reason for Sale: Downsizing my studio. I hope this unique, hand-built workstation goes to someone who will use and appreciate it.
Included: All aluminium frames, shelves, sliding assemblies, rack rails, lighting, fasteners, panels, and modular components shown.
This is a one-off, custom-engineered workstation. Material, gas, and welding costs alone exceeded the buy it now price, not including tools or labour.
Availability: Collection is ideal up to the 13th, and then again from the 6th of January.
If you are interested, message me for dimensions. I can provide them or send a Google SketchUp file.
LHS sidecar section no longer available due to substantial part reduction.
