Long story short, I was gifted a chest of vintage Barbie dolls and outfits. Some of the components of the ensembles were lost, some pieces fell victim to rough play and/or the ravages of time. Everything needed freshening up and there were some blanks to fill in in most cases. In the process of sorting them, I marveled at the amazing quality of that first decade of Barbie fashions. I wanted to “do them proud” and make them complete ensembles again, so I did.

I choose a Millie-face Barbie for the look of a popular-girl that would be deemed “Campus Belle.” A Barbie with red lipstick and a come- hither look just wouldn’t be right.

This dress came in three colors—rose, yellow, and blue. It was sold as one of the fashion pak offerings. I am assuming it came with a pair of color-coordinated mules, and you could buy other accessories to go with it if you wanted. I added white gloves, sweet pink heels, made jewelry with crystal and faux-pearl beads, and gave her a Barbie cellphone featuring the silhouette of a 60’s ponytail Barbie. I named this remake "Pink Lifestyle."

The Millie Barbie is included. I acquired her second hand so she has likely seen some play time. Her hair is great. She’s had a spa day since arriving and I don’t see any flaws. Her limbs do not flex.

Everything comes from a non-smoking, Barbie-loving home where déjà vu is a real thing.
