Two hundred and seventy-two lots of California painting, sold simultaneously in San Francisco and Los Angeles. Maynard Dixon, Edgar Payne, Granville Redmond, William Keith, Thomas Hill, Carl Oscar Borg, Edward Borein, John Marshall Gamble, Mary DeNeale Morgan and Marion Kavanaugh Wachtel are among the artists represented, most lots carrying provenance and a black-and-white illustration facing the description. Hammer prices recorded against nearly every estimate, together with the printed prices realized sheet laid in, make this a working record of what the sale actually brought rather than a catalogue of estimates alone.
