I'm thinking these beautiful bookends probably date to the 1920s or early '30s. They depict two identical Airedale Terrier dogs in sitting pose and are bronzed, probably over white metal, and bolted to what appears to be a steel base. They may have been manufactured by the Pompeian Bronze Company (originally named Galvano Bronze) which was the first commercially produced art metal industry in the US. They measure 8" in height and are quite heavy, weighing in at about 2 pounds 5 ounces apiece. In very nice vintage condition, with a few small nicks to the paint on the base. The felt covering on the bottom is loose on one bookend but could easily be glued back in place. Please examine the photos carefully, and feel free to write if you have questions.
