Beautiful luxury edition of Kenneth Grahame’s classic The Wind in the Willows, published by Smythson of Bond Street and made in England.

The book is finely bound in richly grained red leather with gilt lettering and rules, raised spine bands, elaborate gilt inner dentelles, red moiré-style endpapers, gilt page edges and an attached black ribbon marker. It is printed on Smythson’s registered White Wove paper and accompanied by its soft purple drawstring protective pouch.

This is a complete, unillustrated edition of the original text, containing all twelve chapters. No conventional copyright or edition page is present; the Smythson title and publication information appear on the title page as issued.

Features:

The presentation page bears a handwritten christening inscription:

“To Alexia, On the occasion of your Christening. 28th November 2010. With much love always, Godfather Dickie.”

Pre-owned and very well preserved overall. The leather binding remains handsome, the pages appear clean, and the book presents beautifully. The purple pouch shows some lint and light storage wear. The inscription is clearly photographed and should be considered part of the book’s personal history. Please examine all photographs for exact condition.

A scarce and exceptionally attractive Smythson presentation volume for a collector of fine bindings, a decorative library, an admirer of Kenneth Grahame—or perhaps a particularly meaningful gift for someone named Alexia.
