Painting is an oil on canvas: size is 22" x 28," plus frame. Very good condition. Signed in lower right and dated 1947. Overall size is 25" x 31."

Born July 22, 1891 in New York City, Emil Thulin was the son of Joanna and Neil Thulin. When very young his family moved to 960 W. Harvard Terrace, Evanston, Illinois, later moving to 5940 Knox Avenue, Sauganash, Illinois near Chicago. 

He was an evening student at the Art Institute of Chicago from 1911 to 1914 where he studied under Boutwood, Schroeder and Reynolds. In 1919 he also studied at the Academy Julian in Paris. Thulin exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago from 1920 through 1925. He also exhibited in Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.

He was awarded prizes from his exhibits with the Swedish Club of Chicago in 1932 and 1935; also in Milwaukee and Pittsburgh. Member of the Palette and Chisel Club and the Artists Guild of Chicago.

A veteran of WWI, the artist died in the Chicago Veterans Hospital in 1965.
