Thank you for visiting my listing.
This is an original Japanese woodblock print New Year postcard created by Teizo Imamura (今村貞三) for 1927 (Showa 2).
The design features a highly stylized rabbit leaping over a curved band of colors, set against a deep green background. The bold, simplified composition and visible woodblock texture give the card a distinctly modern graphic quality.
The Japanese inscription on the front reads “昭和二年一月一日 謹賀新春”, celebrating the New Year on January 1, 1927.
The postcard was actually used and mailed in Japan. The reverse retains the original postage stamp, postal cancellation, handwritten address and message, giving the piece additional period character and historical interest.
An attractive example of early Showa-period Japanese New Year graphic design, combining traditional woodblock printing with a strikingly modern composition.
