Item
An original WWII U.S. Army officer's pair of "pink" trousers — the taupe wool dress trousers worn with the OD "greens" service coat to make up the iconic "Pinks and Greens" officer's uniform. This pair is named, hand-inked "Fritzke" on the interior waistband lining — a direct link to the officer who owned them.
They are private-purchase quality in a fine wool gabardine/elastique of the distinctive pinkish-taupe shade, with a button fly, interior suspender buttons, side slash pockets, a right-rear button-flap pocket, belt loops, and a cream sateen pocketing/lining. The trousers show honest age and wear with some light staining and toning to the fabric and lining, but remain sound and very displayable.
Design
"Pink" was the U.S. Army's semi-official name for the light taupe/rosy-drab shade of officer's trousers introduced in the interwar years and worn throughout WWII. Paired with the darker OD Shade 51 "green" service coat, the combination created the sharp two-tone look that officers famously called "Pinks and Greens." Being officer's kit, these were privately purchased and tailored rather than issued, which is why the cloth and construction are of higher quality than enlisted trousers — and why so many were personally named inside, as this pair is.
Measurement note (measured against a tape, close-approximate): waist approximately 31 in (flat ~15.5 in across, doubled), inseam approximately 30 in. Please treat these as close approximations for fit.
History
The "Pinks and Greens" is one of the most recognizable and admired American uniforms of the Second World War — the look of the officers who planned and led the war in Europe and the Pacific, and so distinctive that the modern U.S. Army revived it as the Army Green Service Uniform in recent years. A named pair like this, tied to an individual officer (Fritzke), carries the personal connection that collectors prize, and pairs perfectly with an OD officer's coat, visor cap, or a broader WWII uniform grouping.
