Hello dear customers,
Up for sale is a rare vintage German bronze commemorative art medal issued in 1980 to commemorate the historic visit of Pope John Paul II to West Germany, 15–19 November 1980.
This substantial medal is beautifully executed in high relief with a distinctive Modernist style. The obverse features a large expressive portrait of Pope John Paul II together with the dates of his German visit, 15–19 NOV. 1980, while the reverse displays a highly stylized religious scene with figures, symbolic motifs and a radiant cross.
The medal bears an “ST” artist's monogram in relief. It is presented in its original fitted presentation box.
A very attractive example of late 20th-century German religious medallic art, combining historical importance with a particularly strong sculptural design.
