Description:
A classic early edition of Thomas Bewick’s celebrated General History of
Quadrupeds, one of the most influential illustrated natural history books
of the early 19th century. First published in 1790, the work is famed for its
lively wood engravings and its importance in the history of British book
illustration.
This early
19th-century edition retains the charm and character that has made Bewick’s
works enduringly popular with collectors. The expressive animal cuts and
decorative tailpieces give the book strong visual appeal, making it equally
suited to a collector’s shelf or as a decorative antique volume.
