On offer is a rectangular cast iron paperweight featuring a brass clenched fist handle. In addition to being used as paperweights items such as this were used as desk blotters, and some may have originated as safe handles. Please take a good look at the pictures as they form part of the item description.

I think this probably dates from the Victorian era, but I can't be sure. I'm told that the fist design on this originated from the mid-to-late 1800s, and was often seen as a symbol of strength and defiance.

The item measures about 15cm x 7.5cm x 4cm (6" x 3" x 1½"). It weighs approx.1026gms. There is no makers name on it that I can find. On the base is a green felt covering pad.

There are signs of wear and tear that are commensurate with age and use as the pictures show. The felt pad on the base is a bit grubby and worn.

Despite the cosmetic faults this is a lovely antique piece. It displays well, and will make a delightful addition to any collection.
