Offered is a beautiful antique patriotic memorial portrait featuring a young soldier displayed beneath original convex "bubble" glass in its original oval frame. The portrait is surrounded by a hand-painted American flag, bald eagle, and patriotic motif with "USA" at the base, creating a striking early 20th-century display.
The soldier appears in an early military uniform consistent with the World War I era. While the individual has not been identified, the portrait remains housed in what appears to be its original presentation frame with original curved convex glass and backing.
The oval frame features a faux woodgrain finish and retains its original character with honest age and display wear. The original convex glass remains intact, providing the distinctive dimensional appearance these memorial portraits are known for.
The reverse of the original backing includes a faint handwritten pencil notation that appears to read "artist 17" (see photos). The meaning and origin are unknown.
A wonderful addition to any collection of WWI memorabilia, military history, Americana, patriotic décor, genealogy, or antique photographic displays.
