Offered here is an exceptionally scarce original panoramic photograph documenting the 42nd Annual Convention of the Arkansas Press Association, held in Little Rock, Arkansas, on May 18, 19 and 20, 1914.
Measuring an impressive 42 inches wide by approximately 10 inches tall, this remarkable photograph captures more than 150 newspaper publishers, editors, journalists, family members and guests gathered for one of Arkansas’s most important early professional press events.
The printed inscription reads:
“42nd Annual Convention
Arkansas Press Association
Little Rock, May 18, 19 and 20, 1914
Compliments Little Rock Press Club”
The image is credited to Kettering & Reynolds of Little Rock, photographers known regionally for documenting civic organizations, conventions and community gatherings. Examples of their work can be found in Arkansas historical collections, libraries and museums. Their handwritten studio identification is also visible along the right side of the photograph.
Founded in 1873, the Arkansas Press Association played an important role in the development of journalism and newspaper publishing throughout the state. At the time of this convention, V. A. Beeson of the Morrilton Headlight was serving as president of the association.
The panoramic format provides an extraordinary visual record of the people who shaped Arkansas journalism during the early 20th century. Many participants are wearing convention badges, ribbons and medals, while the surrounding architecture and period clothing offer additional historical detail. Researchers may be able to identify individual newspaper owners, editors, reporters and their families represented in the gathering.

The photograph is more than 110 years old and shows age-related toning, surface wear, creasing, edge wear and other signs of handling and storage. These characteristics are consistent with an original panoramic photograph of this age. Please examine all photographs carefully for the most accurate understanding of its condition and remarkable level of detail.
Due to its unusually large size, identifiable event, photographer attribution and connection to the history of Arkansas journalism, this is an outstanding institutional, archival or advanced collector’s piece. Original panoramic photographs from early Arkansas Press Association conventions are seldom encountered on the open market.
Photo will be placed in a cellophane protective sleeve, rolled, and packaged in a roomy box to prevent shipping damage.
