An unusual and memorable Kirby cover. RORGG — a colossal red and orange spider monster — is shown from directly overhead, straddling an entire city block, its segmented limbs sprawling across the street grid while dozens of tiny figures scatter in every direction on the pavement below. The bird's-eye staging is a real departure from the standard monster-looms-over-crowd formula and makes the scale read instantly. Signed "KIRBY / AYERS" at bottom center. Comics Code seal, ten cents.

Giant spider monster covers are their own collecting niche, and Rorgg is one of the better-known named Atlas monsters.

A note collectors will appreciate: this is a giant spider monster book with Steve Ditko interior art, published in January 1961 — roughly eighteen months before Ditko co-created Spider-Man in Amazing Fantasy #15. It's a coincidence rather than a connection, but it's one that Atlas collectors enjoy, and it's a fair talking point in a listing.

The title that becomes THOR

Journey Into Mystery ran as a monster and science fiction anthology through #82; Thor debuted in #83. Pre-hero JIM issues are collected as the front end of that run, and at January 1961 this is late-period pre-hero — closer to the transition, and correspondingly popular with Marvel run-builders.

The Charles Atlas ad — "Check the Kind of Body YOU Want" — Dynamic Tension, the leopard-print trunks, the Atlas Champion trophy, and the checkbox coupon to Dept. 6012 at 115 East 23rd Street, with an England address at 10 Chitty St., London W.1. The most famous advertisement in comics.

• There is handwriting on the front cover, visible across the "MYSTERY" logo — it appears to read a date. This is clearly visible in the photos and is disclosed here for transparency
• Additional wear consistent with the grade: spine wear, edge and corner wear, creasing, and tanning along the cover edges. Back cover shows tanning
• Colors remain strong — the red-orange Rorgg reads vividly against the grey street grid
• Please review photos closely; they show the actual book being sold
