Hello dear customers, up for sale is an antique Byzantine Greek Orthodox reliquary crucifix. Circa late 17th century, cast silver alloy, with a hand-hammered and chiseled finish. It has a screw-nut bail that opens to reveal the relic compartment. The reliquary contains a piece of an unidentified relic, cotton, and a piece of a mini scroll.

The cross features a relief depiction of the Crucified Christ, standing with arms outstretched, head surrounded by a halo/nimbus, with radiating lines across the arms of the cross and scalloped, trefoil-shaped terminals at each end.

Reverse: A smaller relief figure, likely the Virgin Mary (Theotokos), set within a circular medallion at the crossing point, with simpler, smoother detailing on the arms of the cross compared to the front.

No silver markings. Found at an estate sale in Kavala, Greece. Excellent preservation, with a mellow patina.

Condition: Excellent for its age.

Please be sure to view all photos carefully, as they are an important part of the item description.

Measurements: 56 x 34mm
