Original Painting from the series of the 1950’s JOHN WAYNE COMICS.
This is the ORIGINAL cover artwork for the John Wayne comics, number 81, painted by the artist, WALT HOWARTH. Walt was a prolific, freelance artist, working in the 1950’s. This is literally a one-off and the ONLY ONE in the world!!!!!
This painting is the actual comic cover for one of the the John Wayne Comic series, that was produced in 1957/58. Unfortunately, I don’t have the specific comic to go with it, which would be brilliant. There are many more John Wayne comics on EBay though, which were also painted by Walt. The comic was published by the company ‘World Distributions’ company - WDL. They published all the John Wayne comic series, but subsequently went bust and the all the original paintings for the covers were sold off in the early 1990’s.
This is a gouache painting, framed and with a glass cover.
CONDITION: In excellent condition as it has been stored in cardboard, away from the light, since purchased in the early 1990’s. There is no damage to the painting, light damage or otherwise. The frame is a very cheap one and this painting deserves a much better one!
Size of whole frame: approx 19” x 15” / 48.5cm x 38cm. The Actual picture SHOWING: approx 14” x 10” / 35.5cm x 25.5cm
I have about 10 more of these framed original paintings, of other comics and by different artists (Derek Isles, Miller Watt and Septimus E. Scott), as I have a friend who is a collector of Toys and comics from the 1950’s - 1960’s. They feature the characters of Dick Turpin, Robin Hood and Wild Bill Hickok. I am selling this on his behalf. If you are interested in any of these, do get in touch and my friend may consider selling.
