1926 Vintage Press Photo by KEYSTONE VIEW.
Mrs. Alma Clayburgh, former opera singer and wife of Albert Clayburgh, wealthy senior partner of the firm A. D. Smith and Company, cotton goods brokers, was thrown out bodily from her husband's offices on Broadway by men from police headquarters and dropped in the middle of the sidewalk. Her shoes had fallen off, and they threw them after her. She went to his office for money to make her child happy. 
Mrs. Clayburgh referred all inquiries to his lawyers, Chadbourne, Stanchfield & Levy, and that firm issued a brief statement saying, "Mr. Clayburgh has paid his wife a very handsome allowance since their separation, and is defraying the expenses of his daughter's education at a private school."
