"Another Penguin Adventure!"
One of the classic Golden Age Penguin covers. The Penguin — top hat spinning off his head, monocle in place, tails flying — whips his umbrella into a whirling blur at the center of the cover, generating rings of rushing air. Robin swings in from the upper right, cape streaming, while Batman lunges up from the lower left into the vortex. Clean, dynamic, and instantly readable as a Penguin book from across a room.
Why it matters
The Penguin is one of the two or three most collected Batman villains, and his 1940s cover appearances in Detective Comics are a defined, finite set that collectors actively chase. Detective Comics #99 is a Penguin cover and a Penguin story — May 1945, ten cents.
At 7.0 FN/VF this is a genuinely strong grade for a wartime Detective. Cover gloss is present, the yellow logo panel is bright, the reds in the "DETECTIVE COMICS" lettering are sharp, and the book is well centered.

Full-page EVEREADY batteries ad — "LIGHTER MOMENTS with fresh dated Eveready batteries" — with a barracks gag cartoon signed Hoff: a sergeant shining a flashlight down a row of bunks, "Now does anyone else want to be tucked in before I put out the light!" A BUY WAR BONDS poster hangs on the wall, and the copy explains that nearly all Eveready output was going to the Armed Forces and war industries, leaving "only a trickle" for civilians. A superb slice of May 1945 home-front advertising. An original purple "APR 4" newsstand date stamp is also visible on the back cover.
