Probably better than the photos do it justice these mottled items never photo well the rule especially
The rule is hard to read at the best of time at these 100ths scales the 1/8 1/4 etc are easier to pick out and obviously the 1” scales
The angled division are good on this one though like I say it is mottled but not pitted . its fit for purpose it is overall a good example the shim is present and the spring looks ok in the rule clamp assembly , font on rule is old fashioned earlier type
It will further improve with use and some tlc
