Here is a beautiful vintage pair of Chinese scholar's desk brush holders (bitong), skillfully hand-carved from bone. These pieces follow the natural contours of the bone used, narrowing toward the base and flaring gracefully at the top rim.

The detailed relief carvings depict traditional Chinese cultural themes: one holder displays a bird perched near a stylized scroll, and the other depicts the long-bearded deity Shoulao (the God of Longevity) holding his staff. The upper rims are accented with a geometric lattice framework resembling traditional window grates. Both containers exhibit a rich, aged honey-brown patina inside the carved grooves.

One is 6 inches tall. The other is 6.25 inches.
