DESCRIPTION: 5 different Mint Boy Scout proficiency badges, felt without the words Boy Scouts, Surveyor, Carpenter, Camp Cook, Gardener, and Ambulance Man (First Aid)

-I do not very often use the word RARE in my listings but it seems to fit for this lot of 5 items, most examples of badges from this era that one sees are off a uniform and have stich marks, or off a display and have glue residue on the reverse, these 5 badges do not have of those flaws

-apparently all badges from this era were hand stitched resulting in subtle differences between each and every badge

Style Variation: Felt version without text, some felt badges had no backings while others had a variety of different backings (the felt variation is thought to have been introduced in 1910 and used into the 1920’s)

Size:                    1 3/8 inches or 35 mm in diameter (it seems that the diameters of the felt style badge varied without any consistent size)

CONDITION:        New Old Stock (as noted below, these 100+ year old badges were recently found in a box lot from an abandoned storage locker, no stitch marks or glue residue that are typically present on badges from this era, the colour and images on this badge remain very strong and vibrant, see images for greater detail)

Once in a Lifetime FIND: Background Story

This badge was recently found in a box lot of other pre-1925 Boy Scout items.  The box included some felt no words King’s Scout badges, some styles of felt no words proficiency badges, some fabric rank and metal Patrol Leader badges too.  In total over 175 items.

It is my understanding that paperwork for the King’s Scout award and all proficiency badges would be submitted by mail to a Regional or Provincial Scout office.    After review, the badge would then be mailed back for presentation to the youth.  I tried to get some background information on the source of this AMAZING find.

The Auctioneer said that he was told it came from an abandoned storage locker and had no other details about the original owner of this box lot. (An image of this box lot is shown in this listing.)

This box lot contained a mix of relatively common items but also some much rarer badge varieties that I have never owned.   Better still, the majority of the items were indeed NEW OLD STOCK meaning no wear and tear, fading, stitch marks or glue reside that is often present on badges from this era. A few badges had moth damage to the felt fabric or backing but even those badges were great to find.
