Boxford Denford’s Eng Co Ltd Comparator Lathe Gauge

This bit of kit is a “Comparator”, it compares your turned or milled part to a given size.

You set the Comparator by placing a pack of slips of known size between the clock plunger (pointed end) and the base. The Comparator is then lowered onto the slips until the indicator is in the ZERO or centre position. The slips are removed and are replaced with you turned bar etc and the Comparator will read off the difference in size between your bar and the pack of slips of known size.

The gauge measures between -15 to +15 thou in 1 thou increments, the needle moves smoothly with the plunger.

It is a used gauge and does have some paint chips and general signs of use - see photos

It is an early form of height gauge
