Step-by-step instructions on how to apply DTF transfer
YOU WILL NEED:
- A garment that can withstand heat, such as 100% cotton, 100% polyester, cotton/poly blends, tri-blend, jeans, leather, and more.
- A standard household iron (set on its cotton setting with the steam turned off).
- Use a thin protective cloth, parchment, or Teflon sheet.
- A waist-high, smooth, hard ironing surface (a veneer or laminated countertop is recommended). Ideally, you can use a standard ironing board, but you MUST place a hard, SOLID surface underneath.
DO NOT USE:
- Glass, heat-sensitive surfaces, or an ironing board with metal mesh on top, as these will let heat escape and affect the results.
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:
- Lay your T-shirt on a flat surface and smooth out any wrinkles. If necessary, pre-press the shirt to remove any moisture and wrinkles.
- Carefully place the transfer with the printed design facing up onto the T-shirt in the desired position.
- Lay a sheet of parchment paper or Teflon sheet over the transfer. This layer protects both the transfer and your heat press or iron.
- When using an iron to apply designs, it's important to use firm to medium pressure and set the iron to a medium temperature (approx 130-155C). This ensures that the designs adhere properly without damaging the fabric. Make sure to test a small area first to ensure the temperature is appropriate for the fabric you're working with.
- Glide the iron smoothly in a circular motion, covering the entire transfer area for at least 15-20 seconds. This helps to ensure proper adherence of the transfer to the fabric.
- After the pressing time is complete, carefully lift the heat press or iron and allow the transfer to cool down for a few seconds.
- Gently peel off the backing paper from the transfer while it's still warm. If the transfer doesn't peel easily, allow it to cool a bit more before attempting to peel again.
- Once the transfer has cooled completely, inspect the design to ensure it has adhered properly. If any areas haven't adhered well, repeat the heating process.
- Once the transfer has cooled completely, check the design again to ensure it's securely adhered to the T-shirt.
By following these steps carefully, you should be able to apply the transfer onto your T-shirt successfully.
