Exceptional antique hand-stitched silk velvet drawstring bag, likely Italian and dating from the late 18th to early 19th century. This impressive ceremonial or ecclesiastical textile features elaborate hand embroidery in silk and metallic thread, with a quartered heraldic coat of arms beneath a marquis’s coronet on one side and a beautifully embroidered floral design on the reverse.
The bag is constructed entirely by hand and retains its original silk lining, which is in remarkably clean, well-preserved condition. Rich crimson silk velvet, intricate embroidery, and its generous size make it a striking display piece for collectors of heraldry, ecclesiastical textiles, European decorative arts, or antique needlework.

* Approximately 16” x 19”
Condition:
Very good antique condition overall. The silk lining is exceptionally well preserved. There is a 5-inch hand-stitched seam separation along one side (see photos). The embroidery remains intact with expected age-related wear and oxidation to the metallic threads. The velvet shows attractive pile variation and wear consistent with age. The seam separation follows the original stitch line and could be hand-restored if desired.
A rare and beautifully crafted example of early European heraldic embroidery that would make an outstanding addition to a textile, ecclesiastical, or antique decorative arts collection.
