Item Description

This is a rare vintage Boston Winchester catalytic lighter, made in England. It comes complete with its original presentation case and original instruction leaflet, making it a highly desirable and collectible example.

Unlike conventional lighters, the Boston Winchester operates using a catalytic ignition system and does not use a flint. As stated in the original instruction leaflet, “Only Boston lighter fuel must be used.” As we do not have the correct proprietary fuel required for this model, the lighter has not been tested.

The lighter appears to have been exceptionally well preserved. The internal fuel chamber remains remarkably clean, the original wadding is present, and the catalytic element and fine wires appear complete and intact with no obvious breaks visible. While its operation cannot be confirmed without the correct fuel, the overall condition strongly suggests that it has seen little, if any, personal use.

The chrome finish shows only light age-related signs and minor tarnishing consistent with its vintage. The original presentation case displays expected age-related wear and marks to the exterior but remains complete and structurally sound. The original instruction leaflet is also included.
