Here is a view of the number one stack of the destroyer USS Newcomb after one of seven Japanese suicide planes crashed into it.
Three other planes scored hits, and three made attempts to damage the valiant vessel, which refused to sink even though her steam and electric power were gone and virtually all her insides were damaged.
She is now undergoing repairs at a port to which she was towed.
