Vintage 1997 New Era "Grand Slam Opening" commemorative baseball cap made for the
grand opening of Disney's Wide World of Sports complex in Orlando, Florida. The
complex opened March 28, 1997 with an exhibition game between the Atlanta Braves
and the Cincinnati Reds, and this cap was produced for that event.

Black wool-blend six-panel cap with a structured crown and flat brim. The front
carries a full chain-stitch embroidered design: "Grand Slam Opening" in red with
blue outline and gold script, a Wide World of Sports baseball patch at center, the
Cincinnati Reds "C" on the left and the Atlanta Braves script "A" on the right, over
a red and gold banner reading March 28 1997. Embroidered eyelets, top button,
stitched underbrim.

CONDITION: New with original tag. The New Era "Genuine Merchandise / Accept No
Substitute" MLB hangtag is still attached on its original plastic fastener. Never
worn. Embroidery is tight with no fraying, pulls, or thread loss. No stains, no
holes, no fading, no sweatband discoloration. Only note is light lint and a few
stray fibers on the wool from storage, which brush off. This has been stored since
the 1990s and shows its age only in the tag paper, not the cap itself.

MEASUREMENTS (estimated, laid flat): brim approximately 2.75 inches, crown height
approximately 4.5 inches. Standard adult cap.

A genuinely hard-to-find piece — this was an event cap, not a general park souvenir,
so very few were made and even fewer survive with the tag on. Crosses over between
Disney parks collectors, Braves collectors, and Reds collectors.

Ships fast and packed in a box so the brim and tag arrive exactly as pictured.
