This unusual book describes the operations of the Romanian Navy during WW2, in the Black Sea and on the River Danube. The Romanians initially fought alongside the Germans against the USSR until summer 1944, and then swopped sides and fought with the Soviets against the Germans until the end of the war.
It is primarily a photo book, with some supporting text. The text and photo captions are all bilingual in Romanian and English.
Chapters cover the reorganisation of navy 1939-1940 ; engagements during 1941 ; changes to navy composition and structure, June 1941-August 1944 ; engagements during 1942-1944 ; the change of sides in summer 1944 ; and operations alongside Russia from late August 1944. There is also a final chapter (with some colour photos) describing the Romanian Navy in 1996.
The book is illustrated throughout with many unusual photographs, showing the Navy’s surface warships, submarines, aircraft and sailors.
It is also interesting in the context of the naval warfare currently under way in the same sea areas today between Russia and Ukraine.
The book is in good condition, with some minor shelf wear, and some bumping to the edges of the covers.
