Art Deco French Bulldog Pottery Bookends Ashtead Style c1920s Dog Figures Pair 15cm

Item:
A charming and highly decorative pair of Art Deco pottery French Bulldog bookends, modelled in the distinctive Ashtead-style manner of the 1920s.

Each dog is beautifully sculpted with alert expression, upright ears and strong chest, capturing the sturdy, companionable nature of the French Bulldog. The modelling shows the clean lines and subtle stylisation associated with British Art Deco pottery figures of the period.

Though unmarked, the design and execution closely follow examples produced by Ashtead Potters Ltd, who were well known for their finely modelled animal and figural ceramics during the interwar years.
