Barbie adores Chinese dumplings. So much so that she orders take-out at least once a week from her favorite Chinese buffet. What’s not to like? Inspired by Chinese cuisine, Barbie donned one of her favorite qipao blouses that features a colorful floral print and red braid accents, paired with stretchy yellow leggings (from Ebay’s “bestdresseddoll”), black strappy heels, and a yellow faux-leather purse with a large Chinese qíng character embellishment, which is commonly translated as “passion,” which is what Barbie feels for Chinese take-out. A tri-color beaded stretch bracelet holds the purse on her wrist. Her other hand features a take-out box of Chinese dumplings, and a pair of chopsticks. And let’s not overlook those Chinese symbol earrings with the tài character which translates as “peace, harmony, stability,” and those snappy sunglasses.
Best guess is that this Barbie came out in the early 90’s. She has a Twist ‘n Turn waist and bendable knees. Her legs are a bit skewed and note the tiny “scar” on her forehead. She got chosen to wear this outfit because of her vibrant lip color and yellow post earrings and ring that are original to the doll. With regards to the qipao blouse, the existing snap was “off kilter” so I added two new fasteners that line up better. This gal hasn’t seen any play time for a long time. She’s due.
