Vintage Mexican Silver Aztec Revival Two-Sided Zodiac Pendant Marked Eagle 23
Description
A statement mid-twentieth century 925 sterling silver pendant with fantastical images on both sides. On one side, a rendering of the Aztec Sun deity. On the other, a solar element surrounded by the 12 symbols of the western Zodiac. On the bail, the purity and maker's marks: Eagle 23, Sterling 925, Hecho en Mexico. The eagle mark precedes Mexico's letter-number registration system and places the creation of this piece to between 1948 and 1980. Bille Hougart lists 8 makers associated with Eagle 23, but none of their marks are on this piece. The pendant's diameter is about 1 3/4 inches and its weight is about 13.3 grams.
Condition Notes
Lovely estate pre-owned condition. No flaws observed. This pendant has not been cleaned and is tarnished, as would be expected for its age. Wear and tear commensurate with age and use.
