Pair of antique (c1920) Italian linen and lace whitework pillow shams. Embellished with hand embroidery, delicate cutwork, and filet lace inserts. Filet lace trim all around. Sheer linen backs, which open to insert pillows (5-button closure). The centerpiece filet lace inserts feature gondolas and scenery on the Grand Canal in Venice, Italy, memorializing Venice's historical regatta .. REGATA VENEZIA .. 5 - 9 -1920. The slightly larger one is apx 23" X 17"; the Church of Santa Chiara is shown. A few tiny spots on the back side and loose threads at the filet lace edges.  The smaller one is apx 21" X 16"; please note there are tears to the filet lace in the center, and other minor imperfections (see close-ups).  Otherwise both in good, clean condition.
