What you are going to hear: Ben Colder’s Warming Up to Colder (1972, MGM Records) is a classic slice of country comedy from one of Nashville’s most creative personalities. The character of Ben Colder was the alter ego of Sheb Wooley, the singer, songwriter, and actor best known for the novelty classic “Purple People Eater.” Through Ben Colder, Wooley poked fun at the biggest country hits of the day with clever parodies, exaggerated vocals, and a lovable down-on-his-luck persona that became a fan favorite.

The album is highlighted by “Almost Persuaded No. 2,” “Hello Walls No. 2,” and “Don’t Go Near the Eskimos.” Wooley's Ben Colder recordings became popular enough to earn chart success, including “Almost Persuaded No. 2,” which became one of the character's biggest country hits. This MGM release is a fun collectible for fans of classic country, comedy records, and the lighter side of Nashville’s golden era.

Condition:  The vinyl looks clean despite the age.  There is a surface mark on the last few songs of side two, but it didn't seem to impair the playback.  The album has been thoroughly cleaned (SpinClean) and play-tested on both sides to ensure quality playback.  It sounded clean on listen with just minor surface noise, particularly between songs.

The jacket is still in the original shrink wrap, so the artwork is holding up well.  It also has a pair of retail stickers affixed to the plastic on the left and right of the front cover.  There is light fading along the edges, and the corners have very light fray happening.  On the whole, it's in great shape for nearly 55 years old.
