[2SHM-CD]
●An unreleased live recording by Oscar Peterson, one of the greatest pianists in jazz history.
●This album features a performance by the "Golden Trio," considered one of the most complete groups in jazz history: Oscar Peterson (piano), Ray Brown (bass), and Ed Thigpen (drums).
Recorded during a two-week run at Baker's Keyboard Lounge, a legendary jazz club in Detroit, this recording showcases virtuosic technique and a flawless ensemble that remains unwavering at any tempo or with any complex phrase. From intense uptempo pieces to lyrical ballads, it encapsulates the refined swing that pianist Roger Kellaway once expressed in Peterson's "Will to Swing."
●The setting for this film is Baker's Keyboard Lounge, located on the historic Livernowa Boulevard in Detroit and known as one of the world's oldest jazz clubs. In 1960, in Detroit, which was thriving as a cultural hub, this club, with its intimate space of only 99 seats, was a mecca for jazz. Peterson himself performed there 18 times between 1957 and 1972, suggesting that he had a deep affection for this place and its audience.
●The tapes, which had been lying dormant in the Verve Records warehouse for decades due to incorrect labeling, were finally discovered and brought to light.
●The album includes the 1929 standard "Sporgin'," but no recording of Peterson performing this song has ever been confirmed. This is a valuable track that allows listeners to experience the trio's passionate performance at their peak.
●Overseas, two versions will be released: the [Standard Version (1LP/1CD)], which contains selected tracks from the five sets performed that night, and the [Complete Recordings (3LP)], which includes all five sets in the order they were performed. This release is a special edition compiled as a two-disc SHM-CD set of the [Complete Recordings], a project unique to Japan. It also includes detailed liner notes by Detroit jazz historian Mark Stryker, making it a work of extremely high historical value.
