The Sculpture and History
This piece is a faithful reproduction of The Dying Gaul (also known as Gallo Morente or the Capitoline Gaul), one of the most celebrated works of classical antiquity. The original Roman marble, widely believed to be a copy of a lost Hellenistic bronze from around 230 BC, masterfully captures the quiet heroism, realism, and poignant final moments of a wounded Celtic warrior.
The Artist and Material
Crafted in Italy by the renowned studio of Amilcare Santini, this figure is cast in bonded Carrara marble, a premium composite often referred to as oxolyte or marble resin. By blending finely crushed white marble with a durable resin binder, the Santini studio achieved the exact weight, smooth texture, and cool touch of solid hand-carved stone. This specialized production technique allows for the meticulous anatomical detail of classical sculpture without the extreme fragility of pure carved marble.
