The text draws on articles written in the 1920s by the local historian Frederick C. Jones, together with an unpublished account of Brislington village by W. G. Chown. Seventy-eight photographs, most from before 1914, record Stoke Bishop, Sea Mills, Redland, Horfield, Ashley, Purdown, Stapleton, Fishponds, Redfield, St George, Kingswood, Hanham, Brislington, Knowle, Bedminster, and Abbot's Leigh as they were before the city grew out to meet them, with twelve large-scale 1920s Ordnance maps locating the vanished lanes, farms, and mills. | |||||||||||||||
