Step into the golden era of Soviet chess with this exceptional, authentic Grandmaster Tournament Chess Set. Manufactured in the USSR in the late 1980s (verified by original internal factory ink stamp with GOСТ pricing), this set captures the quintessential aesthetic of professional Soviet play.
This particular set is in outstanding, near-mint vintage condition. Unlike most survivors from this era that show decades of heavy club wear, this set looks as though it was unboxed just a couple of years ago. The lacquered finish on both the weighted wooden pieces and the board remains bright, glossy, and strikingly rich—making it a supreme candidate for a high-end gift or a prized display piece in a serious collection.
Authentic Late Soviet Craftsmanship: Features the iconic Soviet "Grandmaster" shape with contrasting wooden finials on the Kings and Queens.
Wooden Pieces: Every piece retains its original protective green felt pad, providing exceptional balance and a satisfying tactile feel during play.
Bright & Glossy Finish: Stunning natural wood grain with a fresh, highly polished lacquer coat that radiates under light.
Verified Vintage Origin: stamped inside with the official Soviet quality control (OTK) price stamp from the late 1980s era.
Chess Pieces: Mint / Excellent Condition. Absolutely complete set (32/32 pieces). No chips, cracks. All green felt bottoms are fully intact.
Chess Board: Very Good Vintage Condition. Solid wood construction with smooth, functioning hinges and latch. The playing surface retains fantastic color and shine with only minor, subtle signs of age and storage, giving it an authentic vintage charm without compromising its vibrant look.
