For sale here is a wonderful piece of Chinese export porcelain dating from the mid-18th century - circa 1750.
Very similar pieces to this were found in the wreckage of ships like the Hatcher Cargo which sank whilst carrying huge quantities of porcelain which was being exported from China to Europe in the mid 18th century.
This tiny miniature tea bowl is hand painted with blue and white decoration on the inside and a Batavia brown or cafe au lait glaze on the outside.
It would have been exported from China to Holland where miniature China and elaborate Dolls Houses were popular status symbols.
For similar bowls see “The Hatcher Porcelain Cargoes” page 113-114.
5.5cm diameter, 3.4cm high
Tiny chip on the foot. Two small production flaws in the glaze. No other damage
