You are bidding on a 1960 Steyr-Puch Haflinger model 700AP, an extremely capable off-road vehicle. The specifications state that gradients of 65% can be climbed, and loads of up to half a ton can be carried. The engine is 643cc and it is twin-cylinder-air cooled. Both the front and rear axles have differential locks. The selection of 4 wheel drive and the differential locks can be made on the fly.
The owner before me was a welder to trade, and he replaced much of the back body of the vehicle with new metal. There is very light surface rust visible on the front of the body, but I don’t think that there is any rust anywhere else. He did not finish building up the complete vehicle, and I haven’t either. There is a very large collection of Haflinger spare parts that will go with the vehicle. These have come from this Haflinger and from several others. Some of these parts will be needed to finish off the rebuild of the vehicle, but there will be many parts that will be left over after that too. The parts include two sets of doors, two spare dynostarters, two windscreens, two tow bars, and three spare heat exchanger boxes. Sheeting would have to be obtained or created to cover the rear body.
I have supplied photographs of the vehicle itself here. These were taken quite a while ago. The only difference between what you can see in the photographs and how the vehicle looks right now is that the wheels and tyres have been replaced with different Haflinger wheels and tyres. I have the original front end of the vehicle, which carries the registration that the vehicle had when it was first found. There is a windscreen with the original front end, but there is a spare windscreen too. There is no rear exhaust box with the vehicle.
I have photographed as many of the parts as I can. I am happy to e-mail to you photographs of all of the parts that I have if e-bay allows you to message me with your e-mail address. There is a spare Steyr-Puch engine too, which is a 500cc unit. I am told that boring out the 500cc engine to 643cc to make a spare Haflinger engine is something that many people have done.
I believe that in a Haflinger, the gearbox is integral with the back axle assembly, and it is the gearbox that carries the vehicle chassis number. The original gearbox and back axle assembly was 4-speed. The previous owner replaced it with a 5-speed gearbox and back axle assembly. I still have the original 4-speed gearbox and back axle assembly though, and it will be included in the sale. The purchaser then has the option of putting it back on, to keep the vehicle as original as possible.
I purchased the vehicle in January 1998, and it has been in my garage ever since then. The petrol in the tank is sure to be old. When I purchased the vehicle, it drove straight onto the trailer. I have not started the engine since. There is only part of a wiring loom, so I suspect that some temporary wiring must have been used at the time to get the engine started.
Feel free to message me with any questions that you may have. As this is an auction, e-bay has dictated that the only payment method is cash-on-collection.
