More information:
This is the Shannon Crystal "Stratford" Four-In-One Crystal Cake Dome (Model No. 29615) manufactured by Godinger Silver Art Co. While Godinger continues to sell similar 4-in-1 multi-functional sets today under different collections (such as their popular Dublin line), this specific packaging style belongs to their classic "Designs of Ireland" series from that era.
About the Item: This specific item number marked a slightly updated packaging run within the "Designs of Ireland" series, right before Godinger shifted away from this classic muted cream-and-gold aesthetic to more modern, bright white and teal boxes in the late 2000s. About Model 48824: The "Stratford" Pattern: Unlike the deeply blocky, diamond-cut geometry of the sister Dublin collection, the Stratford design featured in this model is celebrated for its elegant, vertically oriented pillar cuts and softer scalloped edges, giving it a slightly more traditional Irish crystal silhouette. Model 48824 is specifically crafted from 24% lead crystal (overseen by Godinger Silver Art Co.). While later modern iterations of Shannon Crystal lines transitioned to non-leaded crystalline or heavy pressed glass to cut down production costs, this era of the Stratford 4-in-1 set was still manufactured using traditional heavy lead formulation. Why the Lead Crystal Distinction Matters: The "Ring" and Clarity: Because it contains lead, tapping the edge of the dome or platter with a fingernail will yield a clear, long-lasting musical ring, rather than a dull "thud" typical of normal glass. It also gives the Stratford pillar cuts a much higher refractive index, creating a vibrant rainbow prismatic effect under bright dining room lights. Care Note: Since it is genuine lead crystal, it should always be hand-washed with mild soap and warm water rather than put in a dishwasher. Dishwasher detergents can permanently cloud or "etch" genuine lead crystal over time.
