Any Q's just ask

The North Face Atlas Triclimate. It is one of their most celebrated "legacy" 3-in-1 jackets, known for being significantly more rugged and feature-rich than the modern entry-level models.

1. Material: HyVent™ 2L

  • Technology: This uses a multi-layer Tri-Component polyurethane (PU) coating. It was designed specifically for heavy-duty waterproofing and durability.

  • The Feel: Unlike the newer, thinner DryVent, HyVent has a slightly "crunchier" and more robust feel. It’s highly resistant to abrasion from backpack straps and rough weather.

  • Seams: Every internal seam is "fully taped," meaning there are no needle holes where water can seep through.

2. The Shell's Unique Features

  • Removable Hood: Unlike the Evolve model (where the hood is permanently attached and just rolls up), the Atlas hood can be completely unzipped and removed for a cleaner look in dry weather.

  • Napoleon Chest Pocket: This is the visible, vertical zipper on the left chest. It’s "media-compatible," meaning it was designed to hold a phone or MP3 player with easy access.

  • Internal Security Pocket: Tucked inside the shell is a "hidden" pocket for valuables like a wallet or passport.

  • Pit-Zips: Most Atlas models include underarm ventilation zippers to help you dump heat quickly without taking the jacket off.

3. The Triclimate System

  • The Liner: The Atlas originally came with a 200-weight fleece. This is a mid-to-heavyweight fleece that provides significantly more warmth than the "100-weight" fleeces found in cheaper 3-in-1 sets.

  • Compatibility: Because it’s a standard Triclimate, you can zip in almost any "Zip-in Compatible" mid-layer from The North Face, including their Nuptse down vests or Denali fleeces.

4. Design & Fit

  • Storm Flap: The front zipper is covered by a substantial flap that closes with both Velcro and a snap at the bottom to ensure "impregnable" wind protection.

  • Adjustability: * Cuffs: Heavy-duty molded Velcro tabs.

    • Hem: A cinch-cord at the waist to seal out cold drafts from the bottom.
