Art Deco Flambé Pottery Vase with Gilt Crane Decoration – c.1920s–30s – 18cm
A beautiful and highly decorative Art Deco pottery vase dating from the 1920s–30s, featuring a rich mottled flambé glaze in deep oxblood red and cobalt blue with elegant hand-gilded flying cranes, floral sprays and stylised cloud motifs around the neck.
The vase is unmarked, making a definitive attribution difficult, but it is very much in the style of quality British Art Deco pottery, including Wedgwood and Wilton Ware and other Staffordshire makers. It may have been produced as an experimental glaze or decorative cabinet piece and displays a strong Oriental influence that was popular during the period.
Standing approximately 18cm (7 inches) high, it has an elegant tapered form with a gilded rim and finely detailed gilt decoration that contrasts beautifully against the dramatic flambé ground.
Condition:
