Item description:
Up for sale here is CONWAY STEWART #58 herringbone pattern blue
color, serviced fountain pen. This is probably the second most popular Conway
Stewart patterns, giving way only to Cracked Ice, so they are much sought
after. This pen was made in ENGLAND dates back to the 50's. The pen is very
well preserved. It can fit as a valuable addition and would grace any
collection, and is a quality pen that will perfectly function, as a daily writer.
The pattern is clean, bright and eye-catching - no fading or discolorations. The pen is slightly /
gently used, in full perfect working and writing order. Fully inspected,
cleaned, tested and ready for use.
The nib is
a gorgeous Conway Stewart #58, original to the pen, which writes with good ink
flow and very smooth, it is clean and bright, with plenty of Iridium on the excellent DURO nib. Although
DURO nibs are known for their stiffness, this one has a nice semi flex. The
barrel markings are easy to read. Nib size is shown on last photo, rarely is
indicated like here. Dommed black jewel on cap top.
First established in UK London in 1905 by Frank Jarvis and Thomas Howard Garner. in a small first floor office in Paternoster Row London. They initially sold pens made up of parts that they bought in from other manufacturers. During The 'Golden Years' between the 1920’s and 1940’s Conway Stewart enjoyed a lofty reputation as the premium British brand and produced some of their best designs during this period. The long lasting 14 carat gold Duro nibs are an integral part of their success along with their beautiful color schemes and finishes.
Conway Stewart
fountain pens have long held the reputation of having being one of the
giants in the U.K. vintage pen arena. Having produced some of the
most beautiful colored pens, Conway Stewarts are still being used with the same
reliability and writing ability as when first made, and are now highly
collectable.
