Rare Royal Doulton Cobalt Blue & Gold Floral Vase BB3250 Herbert Betteley c1930

Description:

A superb Royal Doulton porcelain vase decorated in the highly desirable Cobalt Blue pattern with extensive gold gilt floral tracery and striking flow blue rose sprays to both sides of the vase. The elegant twin-handled form is richly decorated throughout with intricate gilded floral ornament against a deep cobalt ground.

Accompanying this vase is original correspondence from Royal Doulton dated 9th September 1994, researched by Assistant Curator Alexander Clement, confirming details from the company archives.

According to the Royal Doulton archives:

• Vase Shape No. 1901
• Designed by renowned Royal Doulton artist Herbert Betteley (1860–1930)
• Floral decoration attributed to Jack Price
• Described in the archive as: "Rose sprays printed in flow blue, aerographed and painted in flow blue, gold sheet as per sketch"
• Dated 1930

The letter further notes that Herbert Betteley was one of Royal Doulton's most accomplished designers, celebrated for his intricate gold decoration and finely executed patterns.
