Authentic Victorian mourning brooch featuring a compartment containing intricately arranged woven hair beneath a domed glass cover.
Mourning jewellery was highly popular during the Victorian period, particularly following the death of a loved one. Locks of hair were often preserved beneath glass or woven into decorative designs to create a lasting memorial. This example contains a carefully arranged swirl of light-coloured hair enclosed within an oval setting.
A genuine piece of Victorian sentimental and mourning jewellery, offered as found and ideal for collectors, restorers, costume designers, or those interested in mourning and memorial artefacts.
Condition: Fair antique condition / restoration project. The glass cover is cracked and has a section missing. The original brooch pin and fastening mechanism are missing. Surface wear, tarnishing, oxidation and age-related marks are present throughout. The memorial hair remains in place beneath the glass.
