Abalone Inlay Signed G.A.R.
Description
This is a good-looking round silver brooch/pendant with eight points of a star or sun extending beyond the edge of the circle base. It weighs about 15.9 grams and is about two inches in diameter. Three different marks are on the back. An Eagle 3 has been stamped in the center. Second, near the bottom edge, is SPRINGS 925 TAXCO G.A.R. Third, which is something I haven't seen before, is BROCHE ALPACA. For some reason, the pinback was not made of silver. The entire piece has been tested, and only the pinback is not sterling -- the pin and the bail are confirmed 925. Please note that this brooch is more blue-green than the photographs suggest.
Condition Notes
The abalone inlay looks good overall; there are a couple of tiny spots that I think may have lost some abalone, but this doesn't affect wearability. The points of the star are in good condition, and the pinback is in working order. This brooch has not been cleaned and is tarnished as might be expected for its age.
