This listing is for a vintage WESTERN UNION Telegram sent on October 15, 1927, from Morgantown, West Virginia to Akron, Ohio.
Per online research, and based on the Morgantown location, it is determined that the telegram refers to college football teams of West Virginia Mountaineers that played the Lafayette College Leopards on October 15, 1927, to a tie of 7 to 7. The year before in 1926, the football team of Lafayette were the National Champions. The telegram signing of "THE FOUR HORSEMEN" appears unknown. It is speculated that The FOUR HORSEMEN signing is some sort of gag, possibly referring to a group of four that attended the football game. The Four Horsemen was a national craze during this period based on the four players for Notre Dame in 1924.
The telegram reads:
"M ALENE BLACKBURN.
83 SOUTH ARLINGTON ST AKRON OHIO.
ARRIVED OK SCORE TIE 7 TO 7 DETAILS WILL FOLLOW.
THE FOUR HORSEMEN."
Condition - the telegram appears to be glued onto a scrapbook type piece of paper; there is handling wear; there is aging - see photos
